Music

Some of the music I listen to

Tool : saw them in Auckland on this tour, March 2020. This is Danny Carey on drums for Pneuma. Even better, there’s a whole bunch of drummers react to Danny videos appearing now, which give a lot of insight. Ironically, NZ’s fourth community case of Covid attended the same concert - and it now turns out Maynard probably had it at the time as well.

Tool

Heilung no idea really, but read the comments section. And very atmospheric - filmed at a pagan/castle festival, would have been amazing.

The Hu Missed out when the show was cancelled for Covid19, but seriously artistic heavy metal from Mongolia.

Orkestra Obsolete A one-off as far as I can tell, Blue Monday on 1930’s instruments. About as British as you can get.

Post Modern Jukebox They do interesting covers, and the big lad Puddles Pity Party is something else. Went to see them in Auckland in 2023 and they were … Ok, I think the venue (Civic Theatre) was a bit too big for them.

Pete Namlook Sadly passed away recently, and really difficult to get hold off - most of it isn’t streaming. Lots of ambient, lots of ethnic. This track is Heaven from Silence II and the vocals are out of this world.

Carbon Based Life Forms and Solar Fields lots of ambience, psy-trance. World of Sleepers is an excellent album - and right now Small Little Green Cubes - Remastered is my favourite track.

Craven Faults modular synthesis to a wonderful degree, a huge setup in a disused mill in Yorkshore. Check out the track Vacca Wall, 17 minutes of basically overlapping chords and arpeggios with a base line that slowly emerges to make sense of it all.
